Ingenuity. Desperation. A haphazard prototype of terrible power. Such were the factors at play in the Wardcliff Incident.
Definition/Summary:
Wardencliffe Tower aka “Tesla Tower”
- Built by Nikola Tesla in an attempt to prove his experiment, a wireless power transmission system
- It was a large scaffold like tower with a large dome at the top
- Tesla wanted to transmit messages and telephony across the Atlantic to England and to ships at sea based
- This was all based on his theories of using the Earth to conduct the signals, but ultimately became a great failure due to the competition
- Guglielmo Marconi’s radio based telegraph system was successful in the first radio wave transmission and all other dveloping methods were pushed aside
- Tesla theorized that if he injected electric current into the Earth at the right frequency he could harness the earths own electrical charge
- Marconi was successful in his ventures, which left Tesla to be seen as a dubious mad scientist scrambling to get financial backing
- In the main building, were electromechanical devices, generators, transformers, Tesla coils, a remote controlled boat, a library & an office
