  • He defies the gods in order bring the gift of fire to humans, which enabled progress and civilization
  • This theft is his main legacy


He was sentenced to eternal torment for this theft, by Zeus, king of the Olympian gods
Prometheus was bound to a rock and each day an eagle, was sent to feed on his liver, which would then grow back only to be eaten again the next day


He represents human strife, particularly the quest for scientific knowledge, and the risk of overreaching or unintended consequences
Regarded as embodying the lone genius persona, whose efforts to improve human existence could also result in tragedy
